Southern Comfort

the taste of whiskey made comfortable.

We were created in 1874 by a bartender who believed whiskey should be enjoyed, not endured. He took harsh whiskeys of the times and mixed them with his own blend of fruits and spices, creating a uniquely smooth and delicious drink unlike any other.

Check out our favorite ways to enjoy Southern Comfort.

it tastes as smooth as it pours.

You know who you are. Find out who we are.

A solid tradition since 1874.

On July 4th, 1850 two people in Ireland had a baby. They named that baby Martin Wilkes Heron. Not long after, they packed up and left for America. A bit later, M.W. began working as a bartender, in a bar, in New Orleans. Dissatisfied with the harsh taste of whiskies at the time, Heron’s customers begged for something a little smoother. Seizing his opportunity, Heron gathered a few of his favorite fruits and spices, and mixed them with whiskey. He named his concoction Cuffs and Buttons. Turns out Cuffs & Buttons was hard to say, so he renamed it Southern Comfort. A tradition was born and it’s been on the label ever since.

A Category of One.

Southern Comfort

Southern Comfort does its own thing and that’s a good thing. Packing a hug rather than a punch, there’s a reason M. W. Heron was proud to call it, “None Genuine But Mine.” Southern Comfort even won gold medals at the World’s Fair in Paris in 1900 and again at the World’s Fair in St. Louis in 1904. For more than 100 years many people have described it simply as: “The Grand Old Drink of the South.”

It’s one-of-a-kind. Just like you. Don’t blush, you know it’s true. You’ve got your own thing and we’ve got ours, but we both can call it the same thing: #comfortable. So keep celebrating that thing you’ve got going on, and be proud to be in a Category of One.
